"At the Movies" Stage Design Details

Solid Red and White Stripes - Red and White rectangular plastic table cloths, $1.25 each, Walmart
Sheer Red, White, and Gold Glitter Stripes - Wide Tulle Ribbon, $1 per spool, Walmart
Marquee Lighting - Clearance Outdoor String Lights, $7.98 each, Target
Marquee Lighting Strips - Insulation Foam, free (left over from another project), Lowes

For this stage design we were inspired by the colors of movie popcorn. Red and white stripes for the bucket, golden yellow glow for the buttery popcorn - Can you see it?

Being a portable church, it is important that our stage designs are able to easily be assembled and disassembled with little to no damage. Dowel rods and velcro are an easy and light-weight option for attaching design pieces to the pie-and-drape curtains! We attached the red and white strips to square dowel rods using a staple gun to ensure security. The dowel rods easily draped over the top of the tall back curtains and, for the lower sets, sat on the back side of the projector screen stand.

The marquee lighting strips were cut from left over insulation foam. The tall marquee lighting strips are free standing the help of extra pipe-and-drape poles and bases. We attached a small section of PVC pipe vertically to the back side of the foam using Gorilla Glue and were able to slide the pipe-and-drape pole through the PVC and then onto the base. For the lower sets we cut the foam tall enough to velcro to the back side of the projection screen stands, also helping to secure the dowel rods in place.
